Good overview of modern quantum physics, although it did go over my head a couple of times. I appreciated the dog-centered examples and illustrations because they helped make the material accessible.

It's been about a while since my last Agatha Christie novel. To be honest, I hadn't really planned on reading another anytime soon, in part because the last one I read didn't really do much for me, so thank you book challenges for giving me a reason to go back to the Queen of Mystery. This book is part of the Miss Marple series, although, ironically, Miss Marple is in the book for about five seconds and her role is mostly focused on giving us the reveal. I'm not that attached to her so I was totally fine with that. Listening to this book evoked feelings of nostalgia for me - the book was quintessentially (cozy) Christie: the humor, the village setting, the "scandal," the mini-romances, and the twist. I loved Jerry Burton and his knack for being in the wrong (right?) place at the wrong time. I loved that Megan brought down the perp and that Jerry's attempts at rescue were actively thwarted. On the downside, Christie's characters make some problematic statements about characters being "slow,"about the nature of women, and about the nature of slavery - product of the time? Maybe to an extent, but I think it's important to acknowledge.

Side note: Having gone back to a cozy Christie, I'm hoping to get in a darker Christie this year as well a la And Then There Were None or Endless Night. Any recommendations?

What can I say? Not his best work (I am a HUGE fan of It. Other faves: Needful Things, Lisey's Story, The Shining, and The Dark Half). Then again it wasn't exactly the story I was expecting.

Not his best in my opinion, but I enjoyed reading it...still gave me that thrill ;)

Interesting ideas, compelling 2d half, but terrible treatment of women characters. I understand that this gets worse in book 3... so how badly do I need to know what happens? Mmmm still debating whether to read a synopsis on Wikipedia (blasphemy, I know)

I appreciated the practical advice and the tl;dr sections that one can easily refer back to after you're done with the book.

I am SO much slower reading in Spanish ... I need more practice. I'm sure I lose something with all the pausing to look words up, but use it or lose it right? I'll have to re-read this once I get more Spanish-language reading experience.

Some of the stories I enjoyed more than others (Yay Garden of Forking Paths!). Borges's exploration of time and our relationship to it puts the meaning of words like "possibility" and "change" in perspective. Would definitely try Borges again.

Unlike any short story collection I've ever read. I'm unable to categorize the stories. Definitely warrants/requires a reread. The writing is sharp and controlled - and the image of surgeon at work is particularly fitting for these visceral, bloody stories.

Not the best mystery murder I ever read, but I really enjoyed her sense of humor...she made me laugh out loud :)

So so good!
