heartbreaking....just heartbreaking. to know full well what is going on, to see it through the eyes of someone who culturally understands the people, and to hear about the double standards in journalism and how deaf the western world is. this was a tough read, but glad I did
there are many great stories and interesting insights throughout, but you have to wade through how to pick up chick's at a bar and formulate how to get them to sleep with you
I'm really split on this book. the writing style becomes grating after a while, and there are many things that take me out of the story, like very detailed descriptions that aren't feasible in context. but man, the plot, the payoffs, it was very memorable.
I wouldn't say 5 stars per se, but this will definitely be a book that sticks with me. Especially with the political landscape of today, it begs the question of the feeling implicit submission and what the acts of motivated individuals really can invoke
Don't know what I was expecting from this book, but it far exceeded my expectations. It is such a fun book, and first in a long time that literally made me laugh out loud
I dont think I have ever cried from a book, but the ending just was so fulfilling to me. This was the coziest book I have ever read, and I loved everything about it. Idk when to even begin, but it just gives perspective on the human experience and what purpose is
I was a little nervous coming into this book because I heard so much about it not living up to Fifth season. There are definitely slow parts early, but I absolutely loved really getting to know the characters. I'd say that's the biggest thing in this book, the character development is amazing. I'm not 100% sold on how the magic system updates, but I like how it challenges the plot.
This has been a perfect story to read with my son. The story is simple, but touches on life's tough questions. Looking forward to continuing the series with my son!
I can see why this is such a popular book. The premise is very unique, and the characters are fun. Like Weir's other books, it's filled with an insurmountable problem, effort to solve said problem, followed by another problem arriving as they celebrate.
A knock on the book is that a certain character is "the perfect engineer", so once they make a plan, it works perfectly every time. For me, that took away the stakes of the problems, because executing a plan has as much risk as the problem itself.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this!
4.5/5
Man, what a journey. Parts of this were a slog, but when things were happening, they were HAPPENING. There is so much to love about the world building in this, and it is so unique to all the fantasy media I've grown up with. It was really rewarding to be given puzzle pieces throughout the book with no real knowledge of what was going on, and then have so many slide into place in a satisfying way. There are so many questions left unanswered that I can't wait to start the next book
