I hadn’t read anything in a while when I picked this up— it is well-written, atmospheric book. I enjoyed the main characters, and found the way their life was written to be interesting. Parts of the book were gripping and suspenseful, others surprising. My only gripe is with the ending, but other than that I found this was a great book to get back into reading with.

Right off the bat—there’s not a single man on planet earth who is actually like the MMC, and this impeded my suspension of disbelief the Entire time I was reading because he was ridiculously selfless.

That being said, I had fun reading this. The protagonist was a bit frustrating at first, but once I got to the monologue where in which she explains why she’s the way she is it was harder to be mad at her. I like how her relationship with her sister evolves, and her group of girl friends (though not talked about as much as I would’ve liked) were very fun! FMC did come off as kind of pick-me at times, but it was actually tolerable and makes sense for her character. There were a few plot points that you can see coming from a mile away, others are kind of surprising when you reach them to keep the reader interested.

I have to add that this was a tad spicer than I normally read, so I skimmed the handful of the chapters that didn’t interest me/impact the plot.

Overall, Summer in the City is a light, cutesy read. Nothing too dense, though a few spots are heavier than expected. If you want something fun and fluffy, this fits the bill!

Well, that was certainly a book.

I wasn’t expecting this kind of dark page-turner out of Nicolas Sparks, but it honestly made this one even more interesting to me. I admit I do wish there were a few more moments of coziness before the crazy, action-movie finale—that small-town romance vibe is what I picked the book up for. This was not that.

It was a short, to-the-point piece of fiction, with a twist that I can say I honestly didn’t see coming. Though, I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it. Perhaps more than one of our characters here needs a proper diagnosis and an appointment with a psychiatrist…

A solid 3/5. Not bad, but not something I’d actively give high praise either.

There isn’t a single redeemable character in this entire book except for Mookie.

Two stars for the detailed science and the ancestors—the parts of this book that were actually captivating. Colding and Sara were okay, but the language used throughout the whole book was actively working towards making me dislike them. Bummer.

I found myself actively rooting for the creatures by the end. Go baby Mcbutter, go!

Ridiculous. Charming! But ridiculous. A perfectly enjoyable, fairly easy read. I really liked Lincoln as a character, he felt true to life, and his struggles with getting over his ex pickled at my heartstrings.

The first maybe 2/3 of the book was entertaining, Beth and Jennifer’s wit really started to win me over, but the last third felt entirely implausible.

Also knocked off a few stars for the whole stalking issue. The whole IT-reading-emails thing was a cute premise at the start, but it devolved pretty far from there. I can’t tell who was the worse offender of the two MCs. Yikes, kind of off-putting (for fluffy slow-burn standards, that is).

Overall an interesting, albeit rather short story.

The syntax of this one is hard to get used to at first, but there’s a rhythm to it that I came to enjoy quite a bit. At its core, it’s the musings of a big cat caught up in the drama of “ellay”.

If you’re looking for something quick and quirky, this would be a good book to pick up.
