My 2nd FM book. A terrific twist made it worth it, but as in Never Lie, I must question her 1st person narratives. Are these characters written the way they are as commentary on the modern woman or as a way to make me feel better about what they’re exposed to? The 3rd possibility is that FM has a very low opinion of millennial women.

Swanson’s writing can be a little clunky at times, especially in the 1st person… But this character, Lily Kintner, is one of the most complex and powerful characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading. She’s the lovechild of Lisbeth Salander and Dexter.

I found myself rooting for a serial killer. Engrossing and unpredictable.

Interesting how science has evolved. From 1959’s Alas Babylon to 1983’s made for TV “The Day After” to 2024’s Nuclear War: A Scenario there is very little difference between the onset and immediate aftermath of a nuclear war. But only 2024’s edition has included the now widely understood notion of nuclear winter…absent from the previous works.

Timely story. Suspension of disbelief taxed a little more in this episode.

Scariest book I read all year.

Some things about this book didn’t age well. King’s excellence at memorable characters notwithstanding.

Had a great 2/3s but that last 75-100 pages was unhinged and not in a good way.

“Clue” meets “The Time Traveler’s Wife”. Very complex with lots of moving parts…def not a beach read.

Good plot but way too many “sometimes we…” morality lessons for my taste.
