Book started out okay, but once they actually became a couple it got weird and corny and like the author tried way too hard to make him “perfect” when he literally started out as a person that assaults his slaves. I don’t know… it just wasn’t well done
My only complaint is that the book really dragged. It could have been shortened a lot and would have been much better and nothing would have been lost in the story. Overall it wasn’t bad, the dialogue was good and the author was good at showing vs telling and there was no over explaining (especially in dialogue, that’s the just the worst somehow) that is so common lately in newer books.
Writing was comical at best, and fairly cringy. Author has no sense of money, and did very little research on how the criminal world actually works. The way the mmc talks about money, or even just the way he talks in general, makes him sound like a teenager. I swear a lot, I don’t mind swearing, but the amount and level of swearing in this book just made me roll my eyes because it was completely unnecessary and repetitive, and so many other better vocabulary could have been chosen instead. There was almost nothing about this book that I liked. Also, the author had zero ideas how babies act and failed miserably at trying to write one, it was basically a prop for the book and not an actual character in any way.
The spice scenes were horribly written and uncomfortable to read, they were speaking full paragraphs to each other mid sex and everything they said just made me want to cringe. The majority of the sex also felt unnecessary, it didn’t move the plot, there generally was not a point, and it was just there to be there. I don’t mind spicy books, I even prefer them, but this was just… bad.
Internal monologue was annoying, side characters served no purpose other unnecessary banter and so the author could say she spoke to another women in the book, the fmc was annoying and I couldn’t stand being in her head
The sex scenes were poorly written and the writing style was too flowery, unclear, and dreamlike and it made it hard to tell what was going on. This had potential if the writing was just better. Feels kind of like a dark cinderella, which I usually love. I truly wanted to love this but just... didn't.
It was so slow starting I just couldn’t get into it. And so much of it just wasn’t necessary and could have been cut out.
The intro was too long and boring to get into it. It just couldn’t hold my attention.
The writing style was AWFUL, it could not have been worse. The word choices, the dialogue choices, it was so bad it was impossible to suspend my disbelief while reading this. Two examples, manroot and verily, repeat through the entire book so much you just want to throw it out the window. We won’t even get into the weak ending. It had such a promising and unique plot, it’s a shame that got overshadowed by the terrible attempt at writing.
