I enjoy staring into the abyss and thought I'd not suffer under reading this and for the most part I was right. Still, one scene in particular drew deep levels of disgust from within me, which is certainly the authors point. Other than that scene, the book was rather enjoyable if ludicrously edgey.
A ridiculous book for the curious and brazen only. Once the shock wares off, not much to comment on. It's fine.
For its time period, the book is incredible. Unfortunately time and refinement of storytelling marches on and this tale gets left behind for it.
Found the trio of main characters endearing but left wanting on how thier path unfolds. (Iykyk)
The spice is there but more established readers will probably find it middling if acceptable.
If you're playing dark romance bingo, "his eyes darken" is a free place.
A great book to suggest for beginners of dark romance. Still decent for avid readers of dark romance.
This book is very hetro and in my opinion easily approachable for male audiences just beginning to dip thier toes in romance.
I did it enjoy it, but I wanted more and feel potential facet of the story got left in the typewriter.
Tender love? Check!
Political intrigue? Check!
Violence? Check!
Highlights: the love between Darrow and his wife. The fear of going too deep undercover and becoming the mask. The pacing is in the goldilocks zone, when it just begins to feel long winded it wraps up and proceeds.
More dystopian forward but the sci-f is there.
Interesting use of sci-fi vocabulary that reminds me of Shadow Run.
I only purchased the first and am immediately kicking myself for it.
Read this out of order, still good.
Has a slight paranormal vibe to it that feels weirdly more grounded to me than "haunting adeline".
Hope you like your murderhobos horny cause that's what you're getting.
I'm not the target audience for this and I still liked it. I'm not bothered by most of the content of the book.
Loved the setting, wish I had that damn house.
Enjoyed most of the characters. One seemed out of place but that's a very small section of the book. Everyone mentions THAT scene and yeah, it's intense. Personally I enjoyed the last one better.
My hot take, the mmc is a bit too heroic in quality. He feels like an action hero stuck in a romance book.
Read Satan's Affair first.
Personally I think I'll like gigi's story best.
Tony baby, what the hell did you get me in to lol.
Splendid characters abound amidst demure scenery constructed by thoughtful prose. ;)
Got about halfway through the book and it just seemed as if the author didn't know what they were talking about. It made my eyes roll. Protagonists who didn't feel like protagonists, antagonists who didn't deserve to be called so, and love as described by someone who didn't know what love was.
