What an enjoyable book! Of course, if gore and the other items listed in the TW are not your cup of tea, then I don't recommend. If those are OK for you, I would highly recommend. This book was fast paced, funny, different and such a joy to read. I opted for the audiobook version, which is now my favorite audiobook of all time given the production quality and the dual narration. Brynne Weaver manages to create a beautiful slow-burn romance within a page-turning tale of competition, murder, and comedy.
It was a genuinely intriguing read.
Most notably, for a romance featuring two serial killers, this story was surprisingly light-hearted and amusing. I never knew it was possible to write a romantic comedy about serial killers, but now I do.
I must admit that I generally don't enjoy humorous books. I have a very specific sense of humor, and most attempts at humor in books leave me feeling more embarrassed than amused. However, the humor in this book was acceptable. Perhaps it's because the author didn't try too hard to be funny all the time.
This is definitely a slow burn romance. The main characters meet right at the beginning of the book and are interested in each other from the get-go, but for a long, long time, they don't take any significant steps toward being in a romantic relationship. On one hand, they have time to build their friendship, but on the other hand, it was sometimes a bit frustrating. I'm generally not a fan of stories where the main characters want to be together but are constantly hindered by something, mainly their inability to communicate like adults.
Overall, I enjoyed this book, and despite currently being in the midst of a creeping reading slump, where I mainly pick up and abandon books, I read this one quickly and with genuine joy. I'm also very interested in the stories of the other brothers, and the next book in this series promises to be quite intriguing. This was definitely a very unique experience.
