If you need an ARC reviewer, Ms. Jones, look no further, I'm your gal! ;)
P.S. To those that haven't read the first two books ~ this book's description contains BIG spoilers.
Third Grave Dead Ahead is the third book in Darynda's
Charley Davidson series. Due to Charley's relationship with the enigma that is Reyes, I recommend readers start with book 1, [b:First Grave on the Right|8788554|First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1)|Darynda Jones|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1317064331s/8788554.jpg|13662358] and read the books in order.
In
Third Grave, Charley is desperately trying to stay awake (while not killing herself in a car accident or due to caffeine overdose) because when she sleeps Reyes shows up angry, smoldering hot, and ravishes her. Hmmm, why avoid that? Well, for starters, in [b:Second Grave on the Left|9565045|Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2)|Darynda Jones|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1316132479s/9565045.jpg|14451765], Charley bound Reyes and he's pissed. She can sense that he doesn't want to be there (there being where ever she is when she closes her eyes for anything more than a second or two). These two are drawn together like magnets. He keeps telling her that she is summoning him, but she cannot figure how that's possible. She has always assumed he came to her, knowing she needed him, but not because she called him to her.
In this addition to the series, Charley and Cookie try to find a doctor's missing wife. Only Charley believes he's responsible for her disappearance. Then, comes her family issues. She's able to reconnect with her sister, Gemma. However, her father starts insisting she leave the PI business because it's too dangerous. Charley's internal alternative job ideas are hilarious. Uncle Ubie continues to offer her support. And, Garrett Swopes continues to shadow her, for her safety, as ordered by her Uncle. Finally, she continues her search for information on Reyes in an attempt to unbind him. He remains in prison, now locked to his corporeal body. During that search, she finally meets the mysterious blogger, Mistress Marigold.
I love trying to visualize Charley's apartment, with her
Looney Tunes wall clock and Mr. Wong (the silent ghost) staring into the corner, which is a
cross between a storage room full of pillows and a broom closet.
Charley is absolutely, without a doubt, one of the funniest characters I have read. And, Cookie, her BFF, neighbor, and assistant is equally hilarious. The two of them together ... a laugh a minute. I have so much fun reading these books; I'm always sad when one ends and the long wait until the next one begins. Darynda manages to mix passion, suspense, mystery, and humor into each book. This series is definitely one of my favorites.
I know many people, me included, were frustrated by Charley's actions in [b:Second Grave on the Left|9565045|Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2)|Darynda Jones|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1316132479s/9565045.jpg|14451765]. But, the only complaint I have about this addition is that there wasn't more of Reyes. The last 1/4 of the book was chilling, heartbreaking, touching, and exciting! As always, Darynda keeps us on the edge of seat until the last page. Then, leaves us dying for more. [b:Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet|13411684|Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson, #4)|Darynda Jones|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1326407122s/13411684.jpg|18670691] is due sometime in 2013 and that's just not fast enough for me.
The third book in the series about Charley Davidson is as good as the previous ones. A lot of fun and entrainment.
Chalrley is working on the case of missing doctor's wife but the point is that the doctor probably helped her disappear for good. What's more, Reyes Farrow is really mad at her and she sees him every time she fall into sleep so she stops sleeping at all. And then he just runs out of jail and asks Charley to find the man he was accused to kill. Finally, there is also Charley's father demanding her to give up this job.
I enjoyed this story a lot. It is fun and funny, I laughed a lot. Like this little girl with a knife, it is strange but she is somehow funny. The cases are interesting and Charley is a great heroine. I only wish there is more of her interaction with Reyes. And the ending is a bit dark.
I can't wait to read another book in this series and to see what happens next. I hope that Charley and Reyes work out their problems. Even though I didn't like what he did to her.
Irreverent and funny. Fast paced and clever.
