Who Would Like This Book:

If you love a twisty, dark psychological thriller that messes with your head, this is one book that lives up to the hype. Gone Girl is a masterclass in unreliable narrators, packed with jaw-dropping reveals, sharp writing, and disturbingly real characters. It takes the classic whodunit and turns it inside out, making you question everything about marriage, media, and honesty. Fans of Gillian Flynn, Tana French, or dark, character-driven suspense novels will devour this. Just be ready for a wild ride!

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers have a hard time connecting because nearly all the characters are seriously flawed, even downright unlikable. If you need a story with a clear hero to root for, or if you dislike profanity, dark themes, or twisted relationships, this might not be your jam. The ending is also polarizing - expect some unresolved feelings! And if you're looking for a feel-good or comforting read, you might want to steer clear.

A relentlessly twisty thriller that keeps you off-balance, with zero easy answers and characters you’ll love to hate. Not for the faint of heart, but totally unputdownable if you like your fiction dark and sharp.

On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife's head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media-as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents-the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter-but is he really a killer?

"Absorbing . . . In masterly fashion, Flynn depicts the unraveling of a marriage-and of a recession-hit Midwest-by interweaving the wife's diary entries with the husband's first-person account."-New Yorker

"Ms. Flynn writes dark suspense novels that anatomize violence without splashing barrels of blood around the pages . . . Ms. Flynn has much more up her sleeve than a simple missing-person case. Of course it did not help that I'd already seen the movie. I already knew the twists. But apart from that, I found that it had what a lot of thrillers have for me. I liked the beginning, but in the end it was just too much. I gave it 3 stars because of the beginning and it was well written of course. But in the end it was more toward 2*.

Great profile of a psychopath. Nobody is innocent and neither main character is all that likable in the end, but you can't wait to are how everything plays out.

Been a while since I've been so gripped by a book. Picked it up after watching the movie but still worth it and managed to keep me turning pages till the last end.

A number of my high notes:

- I know women whose entire personas are woven from a benign mediocrity.

- All those things that spineless women say, confusing their weaknesses with morality.

- Her description ending with "I've suffered betrayal with all five senses".

- Amy likes to play God when she's not happy. Old testament God.

I'm currently about 2/3 of the way through this one and it's getting REALLY good. Total twist that I expected, but had been slowly convinced I was wrong, and then turned out I was right. Now I'm sure that all bets are off.

Once finished, I was a bit disappointed in the end result. A great read, to be sure, but the ending lacked some of the punch of the rest of the book.

Gone Girl was meh. I never really became engrossed in the story. I couldn't relate to either main character, both are crazy.

Overall, the book left me feeling sad, gross, and a little creeped out.

I didn't expect

that.

I have to say, it's been awhile since I've so thoroughly enjoyed a book. Usually when I read mysteries, I can figure out 'whodunnit' in the first few chapters. Not this one. The plot kept twisting and turning and I was never sure who I was supposed to be rooting for.

And when I got to the second half of the book, I realized that I was a complete and utter sucker. I'd been hoodwinked.

Obviously the two main characters in the book are absolutely awful people. Yet, I still found myself cheering them both on at different points, much to my great shame.

The writing was clever and engaging. The characters were alive - I felt like I really knew them. And when I finished the book, I had to take a break from reading for a few days so I could digest everything I had read.

All in all, it was a great time!
