Who Would Like This Book:
Looking for something cozy and hilarious with a heart of gold? "Beware of Chicken" by Casualfarmer flips the usual action-packed cultivator novel on its head: instead of seeking power and revenge, our Earth-born hero just wants a peaceful life on a farm. The story is packed with laugh-out-loud moments, adorable animal characters that somehow end up ridiculously powerful, and unexpectedly deep reflections on kindness, family, and finding your own path. If you love slice-of-life tales, satires of genre tropes, martial arts settings with a fun twist, or stories where the side characters (especially the animals!) steal the show, you'll feel right at home. Perfect for fans of cozy fantasy, progression stories with low stress, and anyone needing a break from grimdark drama.
Who May Not Like This Book:
If you're hunting for nonstop action, high-stakes duels, or dark, gritty realism, "Beware of Chicken" may feel too gentle or slow-paced. Readers expecting traditional, relentless cultivation or plot-heavy progression may find the slice-of-life structure and frequent focus on farm chores, community, and meandering conversations a bit too laid-back. The humor and genre parody aspects might also fall flat if you aren't familiar with - or are craving a more serious - wuxia/xianxia story. Some found the multi-POV style and large supporting cast to slow down the main narrative.

From The Publisher:
A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about . . . farming????
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I'm stuck in his body.
Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I'm getting out of here.
Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you've got the strength of ten men-though maybe I shouldn't have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster. I'm not used to seeing a chicken move with such grace . . . but Qi makes everything kind of wonky, so it's probably fine.
Instead of a lifetime of battle, my biggest concerns are building a house, the size of my harvest, and the way the girl from the nearby village glares at me when I tease her.
A slow, simple, fulfilling life in a place where nothing exciting or out of the ordinary ever happens . . . right?

Cozy and funny with enough action to keep you interested.
Actual top tier book
I enjoyed this series a lot more than I thought I would. Main character is OP, but the side characters are interesting enough to keep me engaged.
4.5 stars
This is my first Xianxia world experience.
Lin Huang, a struggling college student who accidentally acquires a mystical chicken that has the power to grant wishes. As Lin begins to cultivate his own powers and navigate the dangerous world of the Xianxia, he must also deal with the many hilarious mishaps and unexpected consequences of his wishes.
This has a very unique blend of humor and fantasy. Nice intricate world-building. This book is fun and entertaining read that offers fantasy and comedy alike.
Happy Reading!
