Who Would Like This Book:

If you love steamy, slow-burn hockey romances packed with awkward, hilarious moments and a best friend's sister trope, "Those Three Little Words" might just hit your sweet spot. Eli is a seriously swoon-worthy hero - loyal, patient, and refreshingly open about his vulnerabilities. Fans of Meghan Quinn’s signature witty banter, found family feels, and emotional ups and downs will find plenty to enjoy. If you’re searching for a laugh-out-loud romcom with extra heat and don’t mind a bold, unexpected heroine, this one’s worth a shot.

Who May Not Like This Book:

This book can be a tough sell if you’re not a fan of messy heroines - they don’t get much messier than Penny. She’s polarizing, and her immaturity and erratic behavior (especially during her pregnancy) has driven some readers up the wall. If miscommunication tropes, toxic relationship dynamics, or offbeat humor aren’t your thing, you’ll likely get frustrated. And if you expect both leads to be equally lovable or for emotional issues to be handled with care, Penny’s antics and how others treat Eli might leave a bad taste.

A wild, angsty romcom ride with heart, heat, and hockey - but the heroine’s drama level breaks the meter. Love or loathe it, you won’t forget this romance anytime soon!

I knocked up my best friend's sister.

Figured I would get straight to the point because how it happened is a mere snippet of the story I have to tell. The real meat and potatoes is what happened after.

Let's start with how she decided to inform me and Pacey the news . . . together. Imagine that nightmare. I was going into what I thought was a hockey marketing meeting and then BAM! I'm going to be a dad and my best friend/teammate is attempting to imprint my face with his fist.

It wasn't pretty.

Threats were tossed around, friendships were revoked, and then I was marched up to her apartment, suitcases in hand, and forced to live with her so I could take care of her every need. Given how much I've pined for the girl, you would think that wouldn't be a hardship. Wrong.

This is my one shot to win my teammate back. Pacey is the only family I've got, so hooking up with his sister isn't a mistake I can make twice . . . despite the fact that she's pregnant with my child.

But with every mood swing, every pair of pants that doesn't fit right, and every late night run to find the perfect donut, I'm finding it harder and harder not to fall for my best friend's little sister.

Especially when she kisses me...

I just could not stand Penny. She doesn't quite land the adorkable thing, she instead comes across like a self-absorbed asshole. No, pregnancy isn't a blanket excuse to be an asshole at all times about all things, even going so far as to assault the lead male character in your utterly strained scene of the latest adorkable goofiness. Oh no, I puked in his lucky shoes! I must act like a lunatic and put him down so he doesn't realize, and then when he does I must kick him in the nuts because he might be mad!

She is beyond annoying, and just constantly dumping on Eli in every way possible. As selfishly as possible. And just dumber than a glazed donut.

I knew I was going to have a problem with her from the outset, with how she decided to tell them about the pregnancy. It would have been impossible for her to come up with a way to do it worse. And dragging someone uninvolved entirely, into a shitty and awkward conversation, because you felt like it? And acting like it's a work thing, summoning them to your office?

Just no.

And it was downhill from there.

Edit to add: I binged some reviews after I wrote mine, to see how other people felt about it... And holy shit I'm glad I bailed when I did. Yeesh.

This was brutal, honestly. It dragged in the beginning and then lasted about three times longer than it needed to towards the end. The FMC was absolutely exhausting and ridiculous, blathering on about nothing in the most juvenile way possible. It seemed very important to the author that the reader understands that Penny is Not Like the Other Girls in some very Unique, Quirky Ways - example: she likes cinnamon rolls! And pie! She is so awkward, guys! Literally always falling down, having verbal diarrhea, and texting the wrong person at exactly the wrong time! Ha ha! So crazy! ALSO! She’s so much Like the Boys that she will always laugh at a penis joke or a grown man’s collection of mugs with boobs on them! So cool! And she likes Sports and watching Sports Games! Just one of the guys, y’all!

And Eli. Woof. He’s cool but damaged and you can tell because he has no family, never wears socks, and is a walking sexual red flag - until he meets Penny, that is! Because, remember! She’s Not Like the Other Girls! Eli has boundaries and wants to take the relationship slow but Penny knows that that’s nonsense so she just tromps all over that and forces Eli into increasingly uncomfortable situations. Healthy! One time, Eli says she’s being crazy because she’s being emotionally abusive to him (because HORMONES, guys! Duh!) so she trashes an expensive pair of his shoes by planting a succulent in it (Ha! Ha!), splashes paint aggressively all over the walls of their future baby’s nursery (so fine, guys!), and messes up his dresser drawers because he’s too neat and she is a COOL GIRL so lighten up, dude! Ha ha!

I gave it two stars because Teddy Hamilton narrated the MMC parts and I love his voice. Other than that, this book was not good.

Fantastic read!

So good! I laughed so much at Penny’s ramblings and people trying to figure out what was going on! Poor Eli trying to wade through everything! And this book made my heart feel as well. I possibly like this book better than the first one. But it’s been awhile since I’ve read it.
