Who Would Like This Book:
If you love your dark romance with an extra (like, really extra) side of taboo and a truly obsessed, unrepentant anti-hero, Descent is your ride-or-die. Sam Mariano's signature twisty, boundary-pushing style is on full display: think relentless tension, steamy scenes that don’t look away, and a disturbed billionaire MMC who owns being the villain. The writing is gripping and if you crave high-stakes, villain-gets-the-girl stories and don’t mind moral ambiguity, you’ll binge-read this one. Fans of Untouchable or books where the hero is unapologetically possessive will feel right at home.
Who May Not Like This Book:
This book is not for everyone and the trigger warnings are very real. Readers who dislike noncon/dubcon, manipulation, forced proximity, or a heroine who seemingly submits easily or feels naïve will likely struggle here. If you need your anti-heroes to have some clear line they won’t cross or a redemption arc, Calvin will test your limits. Some found the heroine frustratingly passive, and the extremely toxic relationship dynamic can be a big turn-off for those sensitive to power imbalances or looking for healthy romance.

The story follows Hallie's struggles as she navigates a world where her wishes are overridden by Calvin's obsessive and controlling behavior. The writing style incorporates elements of dark humor, vulnerability, and a touch of sweetness amidst the twisted dynamics between the characters.
The plot of 'Descent' revolves around Calvin's overpowering presence in Hallie's life, as he manipulates, kidnaps, and controls her to fulfill his desires. The unconventional romance between them challenges traditional notions of love and morality, leading to a blend of discomfort and fascination for the readers. Has Romance?
There is a prominent romantic thread, albeit very dark and unhealthy, between the main characters.
From The Publisher:
Calvin will do anything for me... except leave me alone.
We were strangers, as far as I knew.
He saw me once, but didn't introduce himself like he could have.
Calvin Cutler. Nice to meet you.
But there's nothing nice about Calvin Cutler.
He's ruthless and single-minded, and he zeroed in on me-a hapless target for his dark and twisted appetites.
In the depths of Hell, I first looked into his sinful brown eyes, felt the greedy touch of his demanding hands for the first time.
Not the last time, though.
He wanted more. So much more.
He wanted me , whether I wanted him or not.
Warning: Descent is a standalone dark romance with an unrepentant bad guy hero . This book is for readers who enjoy stories where the villain gets the girl. It is intended for adults only and contains subject matter some might find triggering.
