After a lifetime of bounties and bloodshed, Viv is hanging up her sword for the last time.

The battle-weary orc aims to start fresh, opening the first ever coffee shop in the city of Thune. But old and new rivals stand in the way of success - not to mention the fact that no one has the faintest idea what coffee actually is.

If Viv wants to put the blade behind her and make her plans a reality, she won't be able to go it alone.

But the true rewards of the uncharted path are the travelers you meet along the way. And whether drawn together by ancient magic, flaky pastry, or a freshly brewed cup, they may become partners, family, and something deeper than she ever could have dreamed.

"Take a break from epic battles and saving the world. Legends & Lattes is a low-stakes fantasy that delivers exactly what's advertised: a wholesome, cozy novel that feels like a warm hug. This is my new comfort read."-Genevieve Gornichec, author of The Witch's Heart

I think it's a fantastic concept, with such a rich world to choose from, but the book lives in the banal without any deeper exploration of what that truly means. If you like some good fluffy fiction, it definitely supplies. But overall the story left little impression on me. It simply happens, and the reader watches a few progression of events happening in a cozy little tavern.

I think the most frustrating part of the story, for me, is how many tantalizing threads are left untouched in favor of unremarkable narrative rooted in the same boring day to day. What are the emotional effects of leaving a life of danger in favor of one of safety? How can anyone truly learn to give up their past? How do you go about building a new life, especially one that hinges upon a specific stroke of luck? Who cares? A rat is baking!! Isn't it quirky??

I would've loved to see the main character's arc truly explored, but it's nothing more than a surface level set of changes. A brief romantic encounter to tell the reader that she's changed, and an unsatisfyingly neat ending.

The one aspect of the story that carries the reader is of course the main concept. It's a freaking fantasy coffee shop, of course I wanted to read about it. It's a shame I found myself bored so frequently, because it could have been a greater novel, perhaps with a little more tweaking. There's a note at the end of the book explaining that this was a nanowrimo novel for the end of 2021, and published just a few months later. Leave it to this book to be a testimony to the importance of lengthy revision. Sometimes a good idea is not enough to make a good book.

It was well written but it was too slow for me. Nothing much was happening which I guess could be cozy for some but it was boring for me.

A light hearted book about a troll running a coffee shop. It isn't really fantasy perse, but simply has fantastical characters. It could have just as easily been about a couple of humans in New Jersey.

The underlying plot is good, but very light. However, it has enough plot to call it a story at all, so that's something. Without it, this work would simply be a mythical treatise to fine baristaing.

I like to listen to audiobooks at work, and don’t want to add to the stress encountered there (amirite?). So, this book was an excellent option for finding a cute, zen, and hopeful mindspace without it being so boring that I zone out a lot or don’t care. There’s some conflict but it’s pretty low stakes and resolves well. I would read a sequel— I am informed there is a prequel but I worry it might lack the same quaint feeling I’m hoping to get while escaping from the unpleasantness and disenfranchisement of modern life.
