Who Would Like This Book:
If you're hunting for a book that's absolutely bursting with steamy, monster-filled fun, 'A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor' is a wild ride! The heroine, Esther, is refreshingly confident and unapologetic about her sexuality - pretty rare (and fun!) in a historical setting. The reverse harem cast is diverse and memorable: vampires, sphinxes, invisible men, and more. Kathryn Moon serves up sizzling chemistry, enthusiastic consent, and monster men who are both adoring and unique. If you love monster romance, sex-positive themes, and don't mind your plot taking a backseat to plenty of spice, this might just become your new fave. Also a great intro to monster romance or reverse harem!
Who May Not Like This Book:
For some, this book can feel like a never-ending steam train with barely any stops for plot development. If you're craving deep world-building, intricate story arcs, or character growth beyond the bedroom, you might find it lacking. Some readers wished for more tension, a slower romantic build, or found the heroine’s instant comfort with monsters a bit too convenient. If endless group scenes and light conflict aren't your thing - or if you want your romance one-on-one - this won't hit the spot.

From The Publisher:
On the brink of losing her position as a maid and with no prospects to go on, the offer of a place at Rooksgrave Manor-a house of ill and unusual repute-sounds like a perfect fit for a young woman with Esther's inclinations. Even better, the invitation comes by the hand of the handsome Dr. Underwood, a delicate gentleman with a ferocious alter ego who knows exactly what he wants from Esther.
Upon arrival, the men and the daily decadence of the manor feel too good to be true for a girl of Esther's station. There are rules to be followed, expectations to meet, and Esther is afraid she might be too wicked even for a place like Rooksgrave.
Temptations lurk around every shadowy corner and Esther has never been a girl able to resist. But the risk of disappointing her new gentlemen isn't all that's threatening Esther's new position. Rooksgrave Manor's protections for its unusual patrons are failing, the wards are crumbling, and Esther's new and exquisitely pleasurable life may all come tumbling down.

No wonder this genre is called
fantasy romance. A reverse harem of loving, caring and attentive men; wonderful erotica with plot for once, and not just boring old romantic attraction; creature fic... what's not to love? I loved the bond between Esther and the boys, and I don't even *like* all the cow-eyed romantic stuff. couldn't decide who my favourite was. I'll say Auguste because he was adorable, you can't go wrong with vampires, and because I may or may not have a crush on Taika Waititi as Viago from the WWDITS movie.
I finally finished the book, it felt quite a challenge. I like that it was so sex positive and smutt is fun to read about. However the where hardly any plot and I couldn't feel the connection between the characters. Just a lot of monster smutt with no plot. I need to have some kind of plot and characters arcs to be invested in a book and in smutt. I just didn't care for most of it.
Hot smut scenes, interesting world building. Did not expect to like this book as much as I did. Immediately got the second book in the series after finishing this one.
Monster smut is a new genre for me, and I wasn't sure if I would like it, but I really do like this author and so decided to give it a try. I liked it, but look...this book is like 85% monster sex, 15% plot. I would have appreciated at least 25% more plot.
But there is a thread of plot there, and it seems like it is going to unfold over the series as a whole. I'm not sure there was enough here for me to really get invested, though. We'll see if I am drawn back in for more gushing monster sex when book 2 comes out next month.
This book is amazing and sexy. I love how the women in this series are worshipped by monstrous men without being taken advantage of. There's something incredibly freeing about knowing the story is all about enthusiastic consent, and it doesn't hurt that monsters are hot lol. This book is fantastic, and the second in the series is just as good. I cannot wait for the third one to come out. The novella is good, but not as amazing as the two novels, but still worth a read.
