This is my first book by this author, and it has been quite a successful experience.
The author has done an amazing job in building an atmosphere of danger and threat. All the time, you expect something to suddenly pop out of the darkness of the old chapel converted into a house, where Adam and Amelia are staying. Not only are the two of them listening for any unexpected noises, but you are also doing so while reading this book. This book really gave me a thrill.
The author also managed to make everyone appear suspicious. Amelia and Adam don't trust each other. And they have reasons for this, because apparently, both of them are not only hiding something from each other, but there is also something in their past that they would not want to reveal. But there are also some other people in this book who you quickly get suspicious of some evil intentions. And just as you suspect at the beginning that the whole situation was set up by either Amelia or Adam, around the middle of the book, you start to wonder if maybe they are innocent after all. I was really interested in how it all resolves.
I usually don't like when a book has more than one storyline - when it's happening now and in the past, for example. And even here, the letters written on their anniversary were sometimes a bit too long for me. But I agree that they allow us a better insight into what is going on in their marriage and cast even more suspicions, not only on Amelia and Adam but also on other characters.
I'm also not a huge fan of multiple points of view in my books, but in this case, it worked out great. Thanks to the fact that we have both Adam's and Amelia's POVs all the time, we're not sure who's hiding what, and everything seems even more mysterious.
The ending was pretty good. I expected some of it, but partly hoped it would be even more twisted. Although the last chapter is a bit over the top, I could live without it.
I don't even know where to begin.
I accidentally chose this book -because I just liked the cover; however soon after this book was not only attracting me by its cover.
I loved every single page of this novel because I enjoyed how the story was narrated. At the beginig I was having loads of thoughts to predict the storyline.not only did I fail, but also I made myself a fool just because I thought I could be able to predict such a well-thought concept.
It toon me less than 3 days of constant reading to finish it.
I am both sad - that it is finished. And thrilled - that how perfect it ended.
Besides of the cleverness of the author( thank you for creating such a world to forget reality), It was really tense between characters.
You could feel everything that was written.
The plot twist was the moment of silence to me.
I could not even hear my heartbeat beating.
The blood in my veins stopped moving, and the only thing i was capable of doing was just to stand up and hold my head.
Loved it!
