Who Would Like This Book:

If you're a fan of zombies, military action, and gritty survival tales, "Day By Day Armageddon" by J.L. Bourne is a must-read. Written in a journal format by an active-duty military officer, the book has a raw authenticity that appeals to fans of realistic survival scenarios. The day-by-day entries make you feel like you’re living through the apocalypse right alongside the narrator, making it unputdownable for anyone who loves tense, atmospheric horror with a focus on strategy and resourcefulness. It’s especially great if you enjoy journal-style storytelling and appreciate detailed military tactics and weaponry.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers were disappointed by the shift in narrative style in later books, moving from the intimate first-person journal to a more traditional third-person approach. This change, along with what felt like rushed or uneven plotting in the sequels, left a few fans feeling disconnected from the characters. Others found the heavy military jargon a bit much, and weren’t sold on the inclusion of certain sci-fi elements. If you prefer deep character development or a non-military perspective, or get turned off by abrupt endings and unresolved plotlines, this series might leave you frustrated.

A gripping, journal-style zombie saga that nails military realism and survival horror - especially at the start. Expect addictive reading, but be prepared for tonal shifts and some rough narrative patches in the sequels. Worth it for zombie fans and survival enthusiasts!

About:

Day By Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne follows a U.S. Naval officer navigating a world devastated by a zombie apocalypse, told through his first-person journal entries. The story starts with the officer documenting the early days of the outbreak and evolves into a gripping tale of survival as he encounters other survivors and faces the realities of a collapsing society. The writing style is engaging and creates a sense of intimacy, drawing readers into the protagonist's thoughts and experiences.

As the series progresses into sequels, the storytelling shifts, blending journal entries with a more traditional narrative approach, allowing for broader character development and simultaneous plotlines involving various groups of survivors. However, while the first book retains a compelling urgency, subsequent entries have been critiqued for losing that initial drive as the scope expands and additional characters are introduced. Despite some narrative shifts and pacing issues, Bourne's detailed military background infuses the writing with authenticity, making it a rich read for fans of zombie fiction.

Characters:

The protagonist is a military survivor whose character is central to the plot, while secondary characters are included with varying degrees of development.

The writing combines a first-person journal style for initial books, transitioning to a third-person narrative in later ones, highlighting tactical military themes.

Plot/Storyline:

The narrative follows a survivor in a military context amid a global zombie outbreak, evolving through several books with some plot inconsistencies.

Setting:

The story is rooted in a contemporary US setting that evolves through different survival scenarios during a zombie apocalypse.

Pacing:

The pacing begins quickly and suspenseful, but subsequent entries slow at points, with some rushed endings causing mixed reactions.
My mother called today on my cell worried asking me if I knew anything about what’s going on overseas. I had to once again explain to my mother that just because I’m an officer in the Navy does not me...

The zombie apocalypse is sweeping the world and in this book you follows a man struggles in this new world through journal entries. A slight twist on the basic zombie story. I liked it a lot, zombies are just so fun to read about but hopefully they won't become a reality!! The book went by so fast and I'm eager to continue the series to see what happens next, but I didn't quite warm up for the characters but I enjoyed it anywho
