Who May Not Like This Book:
Readers looking for fast-paced, action-at-every-moment thrillers might find the book a little dense - some say it could've lost a few hundred pages and been tighter. It’s a slow burn at first, with lots of setup, training, and world details, which means the story takes its time before truly hitting its stride. A few found the romance subplot or certain character decisions frustrating or unrealistic, and if you’re not a fan of "teenagers in a military academy" drama, it might not be your cup of tea. If you want a short, punchy book, this isn’t it.

Everything this book does is done great. It has been a while since I found a new progression fantasy that checks every single box. The characters are great, the plot is always driving forward, the setting is perfect for the plot and characters, and there's just enough series plot mixed in to make it all great. Of course the audio book is read by the greatest narrator on earth, so yeah just overall an incredible book. The only thing that upsets me is the amount of time between book 2 and book 3. Normally this genre comes out fast, but it has been a couple years since book 3.
One of my favourite series
