picked this up because of the john green story, hoping to find new favorites in maureen johnson and lauren myracle

unfortunately the ya short story, especially a love story, especially a christmas love story, is not an easy place to shine

green doesn't really focus on christmas so much as his usual friend-group, road trip, and banter-based hijinks

at which he excels

and he does a great job of telling a love story by drawing the "friends to lovers" plot, which is one of the few ways to write a convincing romance in a short story, especially for teenagers

the johnson and myracle stories didn't work as well for me, although the bits of their style that shone through contrived plots were intriguing
