Notes:

Amy Liptrot was born in Orkney, Scotland, on the same day her father was sectioned due to mental health issues.
She had a picturesque childhood, spending time on a cliff-edge field called the Outrun, part of her parents' farm.
Growing up in a remote area with limited activities led her to alcohol during her teenage years.
After moving to London, her alcohol dependence worsened, causing her to lose jobs, friends, and relationships.
Liptrot joined Alcoholics Anonymous and stopped drinking during one of the equinoxes.
She returned to Orkney at the age of 30 after a decade away to untangle the mess of her life while focusing on sobriety.
Nature played a crucial role in her recovery, as she worked for the RSPCA counting endangered birds and tracking wildlife.
Her interest in astronomy was revived due to minimal light pollution in Orkney, providing stunning views of stars and the Northern Lights.
The Outrun serves as a metaphor for her life, symbolizing the struggle between her chaotic past and her efforts towards recovery.
Liptrot's writing blends personal memoir with evocative nature descriptions, highlighting the contrasting rural and urban experiences.
She recounts the harshness and beauty of the Orkney landscape, portraying its wildlife and isolating weather as elements of healing.
