The Sun and Her Flowers

This poetry collection felt like a lot of repetition of messages that I've heard before stated basically in lowercase and in a factual way. Not much of this poetry collection seemed to be profound or moving in the way that I remember her first collection Milk and Honey being. That being said, I did enjoy the poetry about her mother and the culture that her mother grew up in. But the rest of it was repetitive and bland in terms of message.

I liked "Milk and Honey" more than this book. "The Sun and Her Flowers" is more about grief. Grief of heart, abandonment, failure, abuse, cheating. The book is divided into 5 different parts ie. Wilting, Falling, Rooting, Rising and Blooming.

I liked some poems from all the parts and some felt superficial for me. But totally a great effort and a good collection of poems.

My favorite was this “We need more love

But from ourselves and each other - medicine. I like this because there was a time where struggled with how to love myself and have confidence within myself.
