Who Would Like This Book:

Matt Haig's "Reasons to Stay Alive" stands out for its raw honesty and accessibility. It's part memoir, part gentle pep talk - perfect for anyone struggling with depression or anxiety, as well as those hoping to better understand what loved ones might be experiencing. Haig's writing is hopeful, sometimes humorous, and always deeply personal, making this a comfort-read during tough times. The book’s short chapters and simple style are ideal for readers who may struggle with focus or emotional overwhelm. If you want a frank, non-preachy look at surviving the darkest days, this one’s for you.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers may find the focus on Haig's personal journey limiting, especially if they’re looking for more universal solutions or concrete advice beyond subjective experience. If you prefer clinical insights, structured self-help plans, or dislike the idea that one person’s coping mechanisms can speak for everyone, you might find this book lacking. People who rely on or advocate strongly for medication as part of mental health treatment may also feel frustrated by Haig’s skepticism on the subject.

A compassionate, readable memoir about living through depression and anxiety - best suited to those who crave empathy and understanding over medical advice. Not a cure-all, but a genuinely hopeful companion for dark times.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FEEL TRULY ALIVE?

At the age of 24, Matt Haig's world caved in. He could see no way to go on living. This is the true story of how he came through crisis, triumphed over an illness that almost destroyed him and learned to live again.
