From The Publisher:
Love will grow through the cracks you leave open. Ranch hand Roe Davis absolutely never mixes business with pleasure-until he runs into his boss, Travis Loving, at the only gay bar within two hundred miles. Getting involved with the ranch owner is a bad idea, but Roe's and Travis's bedroom kinks line up against one another like a pair of custom-cut rails. As long as they're both clear this is sex on the side, no relationship, no interfering with the job, they could make it work. Shut out by his family years ago, Roe survived by steadfastly refusing to settle into so much as a post office box. As his affair with Travis grows into more than just sex, Roe's past catches up with him, threatening the thin ray of happiness he's found, reminding him it's well past time he went on his way. But even a loner gets lonely, and at this point, there's nowhere left to run. The shame and sorrow of what he's lost will stay with Roe wherever he goes-until he's ready to let love lead him home. This novel has been previously published and has been revised from its original release.

I don't know what I expected but probably not quite what I got. But despite this, I definitely enjoyed this book.
What probably surprised me the most was the amount of kinky sex. I don't know why, but I didn't expect it at all. In fact, even blurb does not suggest anything like that. But despite this, there is a lot of sex here and it's definitely interesting. I'm not a BDSM fan, but when these topics are well done, they don't bother me. And this is an example of a well-made BDSM, even if sometimes quite intense. All the time I have no doubt that deeper feelings lie behind all this. And above all, fun in the bedroom does not translate into an imbalance in their relationship outside the bed. Apart from the bedroom, they are equal partners, which is what I often miss in the MF books.
Sex is a significant part of this book, in such cases it often happens that the story or characters are not fully developed. But this is not the case here. I don't think I fully expected this book to cover some very important and difficult topics. Among other things, homophobia and the fight for self-esteem. And everything is done very subtly and skillfully. The story is as important in this story as hot sex scenes.
And finally the characters. Usually, I prefer a third person narrative, here it is first-person from Roe's perspective. And it doesn't bother me. Roe is a tortured hero, but surprisingly in the first-person narrative we learn this from his actions and from his reactions in various situations. He is not self-pity. I found him a very well written character. Travis could be a little more developed, I'd like to know more about him. But he is fine, too. They make an interesting couple, both in bedroom and outside.
I wonder about my feelings about the end of this book. On the one hand, I liked it. On the other hand, it's all a little too simple and too sweet. But also not so sweet that it really bothers me. Roe deserves his happy ending. Although I'm not entirely convinced that this is a happy ending that I would choose for him.
All in all, it's a very good story and I'm glad I read it. I just realized that I've already read a book by this author. I liked this one better.
