Who May Not Like This Book:

If you prefer fast-paced, linear plots or need everything spelled out from the get-go, you might struggle with this one. Some readers find the beginning confusing and slow, with the complicated world-building and multiple intertwining perspectives taking a while to gel. If you’re hoping for steamy romance or lots of action, the book’s more subtle, slow-burn approach may leave you wanting more. The mystical elements and eccentric characters may not vibe with readers looking for straightforward or high-octane fantasy.

Don’t worry if the beginning feels slow or confusing - stick with it and you’ll be rewarded with one of YA’s most beloved found families and a unique magical quest. Highly recommended for readers who love character-driven fantasy and rich, quirky worlds.

It was April 24, St. Mark’s Eve. For most people, St. Mark’s Day came and went without note. It wasn’t a school holiday. No presents were exchanged. There were no costumes or festivals. There were no ...

Has Romance?

The romance in The Raven Boys is present but not the primary focus, it is intertwined with the characters' journeys.

From The Publisher:

"'There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark's Eve,' Neeve said. 'Either you're his true love...or you killed him.'"

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them - not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain. He has it all - family money, good looks, devoted friends - but he's looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.

For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she's not so sure anymore.

From Maggie Stiefvater, the bestselling and acclaimed author of the Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, comes a spellbinding new series where the inevitability of death and the nature of love lead us to a place we've never been before.

This was amazing!!! So excited to read the rest of the series! This may be one of my favorite first book in a series ever. I felt like it was such a great introduction into the world and characters. Somehow, unlike other novels I have read, it managed to set up the series' storyline while maintaining a smaller, yet interesting plot for the novel itself.

Read with the Goodreads Discord October Book Club!

Really enjoyed this book, One of the quickest I've finished from the Book club. I'm not usually a fan of YA books; This however kept me engaged! The ending felt a little rushed; I am excited to read and already added to my queue the next books. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't find the answer to the hook, though. I guess that's what'll keep me around!

I want to start my review by saying that the author mixed a magical story, a ghost story and a love story in an awesome way and wrote a great book.

Apart for starting very, very, very slow the book was amazing. I am happy I did not stop reading the book. After the first ten chapters everything changes. That slow narrative story becomes an awesome and magical story that you can’t stop reading. The characters are very well written and the story is very original. I am not covering the plot because I do not want to spoil the story to anyone but I will just say that in the book you will find:

• I girl who will kill her true love if she kisses her.

• Someone that is a dead but still lives.

• I road of spirit.

• And an awesome, magical journey.
