Who Would Like This Book:

If you love character-driven fantasy with rich world-building, unique magic systems, and a seriously earned slow-burn romance, Daughter of No Worlds is your jam. The heroine, Tisaanah, escapes slavery and fights for freedom - not just for herself, but for others too - which makes her both fierce and deeply relatable. The grumpy mentor-turned-love-interest, Max, absolutely delivers on banter, stubbornness, and heart. Fans of high-stakes political intrigue, strong underdog journeys, and genuine emotional connections between characters (plus a dash of found family) will devour this. If you’re a fan of ACOTAR but want something with more nuance, higher stakes, and healthier romance dynamics, definitely check this out - especially since it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Some readers struggled with the book’s slower pace at the start and the hefty page count. If you crave fast action or crave romance-led stories over fantasy-driven plots, this may feel a bit meandering at times. Others found the trauma and dark themes heavy, or wished the side characters got more depth. A few also felt the magic system was confusing or that the middle lagged. If you’re not into slow builds, or prefer your romances full of instant chemistry and spice, this might not be your cup of tea.

A thoughtful, immersive fantasy with a brilliant slow-burn romance and memorable leads - a must-read for anyone craving genuine character growth, unique magic, and epic stakes (but give it time to build!).

From The Publisher:

A life in slavery taught Tisaanah how to survive with nothing but a sharp eye, a quick mind, and a touch of magic. But the night she tried to buy her freedom, she nearly paid with her life. Instead, she murdered the most powerful man in Threll.

Forced to flee, she has only one chance at saving those she left behind: pledging herself to the Orders, an organization of magic Wielders strong enough to destroy her former masters.

To earn her place, Tisaanah is forced into an apprenticeship with Maxantarius Farlione, a handsome and reclusive fire Wielder who despises the Orders. He has no interest in helping her. But as the Orders' grip tightens around them both, his bloody past may be the key to her future... or their downfall.

Under looming war, Tisaanah must master her magic and survive the Orders demands. And as her feelings for Maxantarius deepen, she is forced to decide how much she is willing to trade away for revenge.

The Orders have bigger plans for Tisaanah. Darker plans. But Tisaanah will stop at nothing to save those she abandoned.

Even if it means forfeiting her freedom and sacrificing her heart.

Even if it means wielding death itself.

I loved this! The romance was sweet and the love interest, Max, is very likable. The book had me laughing in parts and literally sobbing in others, so needless to say I was invested. I liked the pacing of it a lot. It really took its time with things, which made big events much more satisfying when they do happen. I think people who like Throne of Glass would really like this, there were parts that reminded me of that series. (but I prefer Broadbent's writing style) This book should definitely be more popular I'm baffled as to why it isn't.

Slow to get rolling, but intriguing. I just can't seem to really feel the pull of this story. I may give the second installment a shot, but as of finishing this, I am just not sure.

Torn between rating this book three or four stars, I decided on four mainly for this reason—despite what disappointments I had at the end, I found most of the story very entertaining.

The most fun part of this book was, for me, Max and Tisaanah's unique personalities. I expected Tisaanah to be this rage-filled, temperamental character but instead got someone who, while driven by rage at times, is still kind and caring to those around her. She is considerate, intelligent, and endearing in unexpected ways. Max was even more surprising. He's somewhat of a hoarder, living in a small cottage filled with random odds and ends that he swears all have a purpose. He surrounds himself with the beauty of nature to combat the brutality of what he's seen in earlier days but still shies away from human contact because of his scars. He's not the brooding, emotionless instructor I expected when I picked up this book, and I loved him all the more for it.

This book might've been 5-stars if it weren't for one thing: it was too long. Coming from the girl whose favorite series is 1,000+ pages on average, that might seem a bit hypocritical, but hear me out. The pacing of this book was pretty good, keeping the reader engaged most of the time, but there were moments in the book where I turned the page expecting to read the falling action that usually denotes the end of a book. I feel like the story might've been given more power and momentum into the sequel had it ended at a different point—perhaps when Tisaanah "meets" Reshaye.

I haven't decided if I'll be reading the sequel or not yet, especially considering that book is even longer than this one. Guess I'll add it to my to-read list and leave that up to future me.
