From The Publisher:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Reckoners series, Words of Radiance, the Mistborn trilogy, and the Stormlight Archive comes the sequel to Skyward. The epic adventure continues in this story of a girl with a secret in a dangerous world at war for humanity's future.

All her life, Spensa has dreamed of becoming a pilot. Of proving she's a hero like her father. She made it to the sky, but the truths she learned about her father were crushing. The rumors of his cowardice are true-he deserted his flight during battle against the Krell. Worse, though, he turned against his team and attacked them.

Spensa is sure there's more to the story. And she's sure that whatever happened to her father in his starship could happen to her. When she made it outside the protective shell of her planet, she heard the stars-and it was terrifying. Everything Spensa has been taught about her world is a lie.

But Spensa also discovered a few other things about herself-and she'll travel to the end of the galaxy to save humankind if she needs to.

Sanderson's versatility never ceases to amaze me. His take on this YA + SciFi novel was so refreshing. It's good to see a mom stereotypical female character like Spensa, but my favorite was M-Bot :D

Dang, I took a long time to read this book. There were many factors for why I took so long with this one, but I think the major reason is that I always had something better to read. Very unusual when it comes to a Sanderson novel, but yet again, sci-fi has never been my forte.

I enjoy Spensa as a character, as well as M-Bot and the various cast members introduced in this book (Hesho particularly) but even they weren't enough to hold my undivided attention. There was just something lacking that didn't make me eager to pick this book back up whenever I set it down.

Per Sanderson's usual, there were some great reveals and developments in the plot, which admittedly raised my enjoyment of this book as a whole. It is by no means a bad book—I'm just not the right reader for this series.

Brandon Sanderson is still my favorite author and will continue to be my favorite author for the foreseeable future. I simply wasn't a huge fan of this particular work.

Original Review

Oh dang, I think this was even better than the first one. Not sure I can handle the wait for book 3!

Re-read Review January 2022

After reading these two books back to back it’s hard to rate one over the other. Skyward is a better stand-alone story, but Starsight has an incredible “Sanderlanche” ending that leaves you wanting more more more. Thankfully, this time I can jump right into book 3!

I grew inpatient with the long worldbuilding and training scenes. Not enough angst, too much alien politics.

PS: I need a scene where Spensa and Jorgen cytonically communicate Kylo-and-Rey-style.
