I've been wanting to read this for years and honestly I was a bit worried that I wouldn't going to like it as I tend to enjoy non fiction about the Jack the ripper cases more. But this was a bit of a fun idea. There was some parts that was unbelievable due to the time period and some cringy moments but for the most part I enjoyed it
It was an intruging story and I will hopefully get to the next one pretty soon
I loved this book Thomas and Audrey's relationship is chef's kiss! I absolutely loved Thomas’s character his comments on things and they way he acts is hilarious to me. My only problem was with the ending reveal wasn't my favorite. I wasn't expecting it and the only reason I didn't was that I felt there was no build-up or a hints for me to conclude that they were the ripper. It made sense though. Other than that I loved it.

“Wield your assets like a blade, Cousin. No man has invented a corset for our brains. Let them think they rule the world. It’s a queen who sits on that throne. Never forget that.”

Audrey Rose Wadsworth is interested in Forensic Sciences despite born as a Lord's daughter in 1880's England. Behind her Father's and society's expectations she has taken apprenticeship under her uncle, who is a Forensic Scientist and dresses like a man to be in his class. When a series of savagely killed corpses come to her uncle's autopsy table, Audrey Rose decides to take the matter in her hand to find the killer. A serial killer who calls himself as "
Jack the Ripper".
Audrey Rose with her friend
Thomas, tries to find this
Jack. But her quest for this killer leads to more killings and madness and her own family falls under her suspicion.
“Death was not prejudiced by mortal things such as station or gender. It came for kings and queens and prostitutes alike, often leaving the living with regrets.”
The plot was very well built along with characters. I never felt bored anywhere though I guessed the killer at 60% of the book. I loved most of the characters and the bickering between
Thomas and
Audrey Rose.
“Roses have both petals and thorns, my dark flower. You needn’t believe something weak because it appears delicate. Show the world your bravery.”
Lovely Victorian setting. Its creepy and gory at times and very enjoyable because of
Thomas and
Audrey Rose.
“Fear is a hungry beast. The more you feed it, the more it grows.”
