Who Would Like This Book:
This is so much more than just another zombie novel! "Rot & Ruin" brings action, adventure, and real heart to the undead apocalypse. It's a unique coming-of-age story set in a world where killing zombies isn't always about survival - sometimes, it's about closure and compassion. The relationship between Benny and his brother Tom is deeply layered, with authentic growth and emotional weight. Expect thoughtful exploration of humanity, morality, and what separates monsters from people - even when the monsters are zombies. Perfect for fans of YA dystopian stories, character-driven journeys, and anyone who loves a blend of scares, feels, and a dash of humor. It appeals to zombie lovers, readers new to the genre, and those who enjoy stories about family, ethics, and resilience.
Who May Not Like This Book:
Not every reader has warmed up to Benny's initial teenage attitude or the book's slower-paced first half. Some found Benny whiny or hard to relate to, and a few felt the themes of compassion and morality were delivered with a heavy hand (more talky than slashy at times!). If you're after relentless zombie carnage or a fast-paced, action-only plot, you might find this book spends more time exploring feelings, ideals, and ethical dilemmas than slicing through hordes of the undead.
About:
In a post-apocalyptic world where zombies roam the 'Rot and Ruin', 15-year-old Benny Imura embarks on a journey of self-discovery and survival under the mentorship of his older brother, Tom, a seasoned bounty hunter. As Benny navigates the dangers of the rot and ruin, he learns that the living can be just as treacherous as the undead. The narrative explores themes of family, trust, and ethical dilemmas in a society where survival often means making difficult choices. The book offers a fresh take on the zombie genre by focusing on character development and relationships amidst a backdrop of action and adventure.

Loved it! Once I read it I was instantly hooked and was off on my search for the next one!
Tom Imura. Would you marry me?
Rot and Ruin reimagines the zombie world through the eyes of a teenager as he becomes a man. Dealing with themes of responsibility, coming of age and violence, we are taken on an emotional ride with serious characters who will stay with you for many years. 'Bad guys' are far from simple thugs and each character arrives on the screen with their own motivations, goals and desires, all intertwined with the great mass of shuffling undead.
This is probably my favourite series of books ever.
