Who Would Like This Book:

If you love scorching-hot paranormal romance with a feisty heroine and an alpha antihero, "Fighting Destiny" will satisfy your cravings. Expect action, wild chemistry, and a big dose of banter. Fans of steamy fae stories, spicy enemies-to-lovers dynamics, and urban fantasy adventure will find this irresistible. Bonus points if you like dark, dangerous, and morally grey characters!

Who May Not Like This Book:

Those looking for subtle romance or delicate prose might want to steer clear. Many readers found the writing unpolished and the plot secondary to all the spice. The domineering male lead and consent issues were off-putting for some, and the high level of steaminess (and repetition) can definitely be too much if you prefer your fantasy with less heat. Not for anyone averse to cliffhangers or who dislikes formulaic or over-the-top stories, either.

Over-the-top, action-packed, and unapologetically steamy, "Fighting Destiny" is crack-candy for fans of explicit paranormal romance - but if you want literary polish or a subtle love story, this one’s not for you.

Sooooo I was really looking forward to finally read this book and while the plot is great, my overall conclusion is... I'm disappointed :( It's a sad, sad day.

The setting is Earth as we know it in the present day, with the only difference that the supes are amongst us. Witches and Fae galore with some Vampires thrown into the mix.

While in some scenes it wasn't clear who exactly was talking (had me reading some parts a few times to figure it out), the worldbuilding was well done and environments were detailed enough.

Character development was good, though I do have to admit, I really didn't like Syn :( I wanted to, buuuuuuut no. I think that what bothered me most was that she was 'all about her coven' and still made decisions that could have severely hurt her friends, just by not thinking. I mean, first, she signs a contract with someone of the Fae (whom she hates beyond words) WITHOUT READING IT! A bit later, she steals a car and just leaves the manor (of said fae who owns her ass) while there is a serial killer on the loose. I would have killed her many times over, to be honest.

Ryder, yeah... our resident bad boy and Dark Fae prince. I appreciated how he and his brothers own what and who they are. They don't apologize for it, and they do have a 'softer' side that you get some sneak peeks of during the book. But they are all abusive SOB that just about take what and who they want. Don't like it? Well, let's mind-fuck you first then and make you beg for it...

Pacing and flow were good, there is no part in the story that felt boring, though the interactions between our main cast got a tad tedious till halfway the book.

I like my books to have at least some sex in it (what can I say, I live vicariously through the characters of books I'm reading), though I want it to be well written and not over the top.

I would classify the book as erotica where all sex scenes and the occasional pov from Ryder are like transcripts of a badly written porn movie (I'm sorry, just being honest here!). It was cringeworthy and I just skipped parts.

But then again, that could just be me. There are many different flavours of sex and one where there is a lot of dirty talking isn't for me.

All in all, I can say I won't be reading the next book of the series... even though the plot really does have potential :(

DNF at 20%, because by then, the lead male had already sexually assaulted the lead female at least a half dozen times. She doesn't defend herself - not against the sexual assault, and not against his constant belittling. In their first encounter, she defended herself after he sexually assaulted him by ripping out his soul. How about try that again, or just do SOMETHING?

I loathe him, and I have less than zero respect for him. Fuck books like this. Fuck training women to glamorize their abusers. It makes me sick.

I hated this so much that this author is now on my NOPE list.
