Christ, it's been a long time since I met such annoying main characters. Jason acts like a spoiled five-year-old. I guess it should be cute, but believe me, there's nothing cute about a 30-year-old guy who acts like a five-year-old child. And what he does to Haley is really horrible and cruel. The stories he tells other guys and all the other things… Disgusting. He simply comes into her life completely without asking her for her opinion. He harasses her until she gives up for the sake of peace. Believe me, a few times I really wanted to kill him.
And what does our main character Haley do? She finds it so cute that he is such a big kid. As apparently she finds it sexy. Seriously, because there's really nothing sexier than a thirty-year-old guy with a five-year-old emotionality. She is such a pushover. Jason does what he wants with her. No wonder he wants to be with her, she has completely no boundaries and lets him do absolutely anything. And she herself apologizes to him for his mistakes. Jason is one of those guys who thinks if a woman says no, she really means yes. And Haley proves it's true. They both drove me crazy.
It is a short book, but because I hated the main characters so much, it felt very long to me. I don't understand at all how there can be any feelings between them. Like I said, I understand why Jason would want to be Haley. This woman completely lacks any backbone. She can be his doormat, cook, cleaner, and lover at the same time. What more could he want? But what does Haley see in him? This relationship does not seem healthy to me. And what happens at the end proves it best. The final few chapters are really senseless.
Added to this is this biased image of women we know too well from some books. To distinguish our heroine, who lacks any solid personality traits, from other women, the author decided to make all the other women in this book bitches. All women compete with each other and hate each other. And of course they're shallow, and only Haley shows any interest. Which is supposed to make her unique, I think. Haley doesn't really have any female friends, because all women are mean sluts (but the guys are friends with each other without a problem). She is, oh, so special! And so unlike other girls!
God, this book really sucked. I wonder how I managed to read it to the end. It's been a long time since I met such annoying characters in such a weak plot. I think this is the beginning of a series, so there are more books, I doubt I should read them.
