Once again, I fall in love with t kingfisher's writing. She's got a way of making her characters so real and so much fun to read about. This book hit me in the feels and I couldn't put it down. The mystery, the romantic tension, the weird horror, it all works and I loved it.

4.2 ⭐️ The protagonists were more mature than Paladins Grace and the plot was flowing better, the ending was a bit too sudden though and I couldn’t stand how “Breast” kept being mentioned

Gosh, this book took me SUCH a long time to get through! That isn't an indication of my enjoyment, however. I burned through the first 80% of this book over a 7-hour road trip, but once we arrived at our destination, I was so preoccupied with other things I forgot I'd even checked it out at the library. I didn't resume reading it until over two weeks had passed! Thankfully, I finally remembered and had the pleasure of finishing this lovely novel.

I'll admit that this wasn't my favorite among Kingfisher's works so far (that honor still goes to Swordheart, I must admit), but it was equally enjoyable regardless. I was fascinated with Istvhan's character when first introduced to him in Paladin's Grace, so I'm happy that the author decided to follow his story in this sequel! His and Clara's relationship developed very naturally, and even before they confessed romantically, they worked incredibly well together as a team and showed camaraderie even in friendship.

There is one more book in this series (unless the author decides to continue it later), and I will read it, although I don't know when I'll get to it. Similar to Istvhan, Galen has interested me since we met him, and I'm curious to see where Kingfisher will take his story.
