Who Would Like This Book:

If you’re into YA fantasy with a kick-butt heroine and a dash of court intrigue, Throne of Glass could be your jam! The book follows Celaena, a notorious assassin with a snarky streak that brings a lot of wit and sparkle to every page. Readers will find clever banter, layered friendships, and just the right mix of action and magic. If you love fast-paced competitions, a bit of slow-burn romance, and characters you can root for (and against!), this is a great pick - especially if you enjoy stories like Graceling, Poison Study, or The Hunger Games.

Who May Not Like This Book:

Not every reader clicks with this book. Some found Celaena a little too glamorous and not gritty enough for a hardened assassin, while others thought the pacing lagged in places and key events happened off-screen. There’s a love triangle that can feel heavy at times, and some felt the writing style was a mismatch for the darker content. If you prefer adult-level fantasy, want less romance (or love triangles), or are after a truly ruthless protagonist, you might not connect with this story.

A fun, witty, fantasy adventure with a memorable heroine - great if you enjoy YA, but not for those looking for ultra-gritty realism or minimal romance. Worth a try for snarky banter, epic competitions, and plenty of intrigue!

This has to be my absolute favorite series of all time. I loved the first book and second book even more, but while the third book was very different from the first few I thought it made the story even better. Overall would recommend to anyone and everyone.

this book was my first one about assassins. I loved the assassin character however her feelings confused me as she looked like a puzzle that needed to be solved. I hoped the writer would explain her feeling clearly.

the book was lovely but some parts were long and boring so I had to skip some pages.

What an intriguing start of a series! A great book that will occupy your mind even when you're not reading it.

World building is great, all scenes are well described, letting your mind just follow and enjoy the story. Loved how you learn about the different regions through conversation between characters, little by little they paint the canvas that is their world.

Character building was again, great. As this is a well fleshed out book (400 pages) the author has more than enough time to really get into the characters head, giving us a good grasp of their reasoning, intentions and their history. Except for the villains in this instalment, without spoiling too much, you don’t really get much information about them apart some small snippet here and there, building the intrigue and tension!

Pacing and flow were good, a lot of action but not over the top. There is still more than enough room for the story to unfold and the characters to develop.

The book itself is well written and I found no (noticeable) errors. There is no sex described in this book.

All in all, while I'm not as blown away after reading this book like I was after A Court of Thorns and Roses, I still liked it a lot! It has great potential, characters are intriguing and I just need to know how it continues! Next book is on my (way too big) TBR pile!

———4th reread———

This is the fourth time I read Throne of Glass and well after reading all the series till Tower of Dawn it’s obvious that Maas writing style has changed.. for the better of course!! I think ToG is more childish in comparison to the other books in the series but it’s still a great beginning. Rereading it again I spotted more info and a lot of hints for what’s gonna happen in the following books that I totally skipped the first, second and third time. But it’s evident that Sarah knew since the beginning what she wanted from this series. Now I need to reread all the other books and FINALLY start Kingdom of Ash
