From The Publisher:

From award-winning author, Ilona Andrews, an all-new novel set in the New York Times #1 bestselling Kate Daniels World and featuring Julie Lennart-Olsen, Kate and Curran's ward.

Atlanta was always a dangerous city. Now, as waves of magic and technology compete for supremacy, it's a place caught in a slow apocalypse, where monsters spawn among the crumbling skyscrapers and supernatural factions struggle for power and survival.

Eight years ago, Julie Lennart left Atlanta to find out who she was. Now she's back with a new face, a new magic, and a new name-Aurelia Ryder-drawn by the urgent need to protect the family she left behind. An ancient power is stalking her adopted mother, Kate Daniels, an enemy unlike any other, and a string of horrifying murders is its opening gambit.

If Aurelia's true identity is discovered, those closest to her will die. So her plan is simple: get in, solve the murders, prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled, and get out without being recognized. She expected danger, but she never anticipated that the only man she'd ever loved could threaten everything.

One small misstep could lead to disaster. But for Aurelia, facing disaster is easy; it's relationships that are hard.

I waited for the blog posts to be finished before reading this story while it was free (Thanks so much, Ilona and Gordon!!) but then decided to extend the wait until it was published. I’m glad I did because this turned out to be exactly what I needed right now. A wonderful escape. Loved reuniting with these two in new and unexpected ways.

Oh My... Where to start?

I love Julie! I love Kate! I love this world! And most of all I adore Ilona Andrews, this majestic power couple of writing.

Talking about the book it is simply amazing, from Derek to Sienna, to Conlan, from Luther to Nick and Desandra and all the others.

The last words that Julie says to Derek before he eats the hearth of the Sphinx are the ones that probably made him do that since she said: "I'm finally pretty enough for you?" Pretty is what they called him before the scars. Before everything. It was powerful.

There will still be a future for them?

Let's wait and see.

Can't wait for more Aurelia's books. And Hugh's books. And Catalina's books. And Arabella's books. And all of the Ilona Andrews books.

Spent far too much time info dumping the history, not enough time actually moving the plot forward. Also, felt very episodic and repetitive.

About the Author:

"Ilona Andrews" is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian, and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the US Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have coauthored four New York Times and USA Today bestselling series: the Kate Daniels urban fantasy series, the Edge rustic fantasy books, the Hidden Legacy paranormal romance novels, and the Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial.
