Ethan Ransom, a former detective for Scotland Yard, is as gallant as he is secretive, a rumored assassin whose true loyalties are a mystery. For one exhilarating night, they give in to their potent attraction before becoming strangers again.
A man who breaks every rule
As a Ravenel by-blow spurned by his father, Ethan has little interest in polite society, yet he is captivated by the bold and beautiful Garrett. Despite their vow to resist each other after that sublime night, she is soon drawn into his most dangerous assignment yet. When the mission goes wrong, it will take all of Garrett's skill and courage to save him. As they face the menace of a treacherous government plot, Ethan is willing to take any risk for the love of the most extraordinary woman he's ever known.

inaspettatamente, questo quarto libro della serie mi è piaciuto molto. ho amato tutte le nozioni di medicina presenti nel libro e il rapporto tra garrett e ethan è molto dolce
This was really great. Very straightforward, but extraordinarily sweet. And so great to get to dig into Garrett, a woman who is struggling to be a doctor in a rampantly misogynistic society.
And I really liked Ethan too. How could you not? He was unbelievably sweet, and disarming. Every time I felt miffed at him, he'd come back with this heartbreakingly lovely comment, and you couldn't help but melt.
And now I'm re-reading
Devil in Spring ... and probably
Devil in Winter too, because I just can't help myself...
lisa kleypas you charm the pants off me
the weirdest thing about this book is the dress on the cover
it looks very met ball, not very historical romance, but whatever
garrett and ethan are so meant to be, and they don't really fight it, they don't have a real big bad situation to overcome to be together, and that's okay here; for some reason it just feels good to revel in their connection to each other
i read a review that complained of orientalism in one scene when ethan talks about an indian woman who taught him to make love
and i see it, but also....sex workers are a thing
everywhere
the treatment this unnamed character gets is strange (ethan briefly mentioned how and what she taught him)
but i think the only solutions would be to cut her out even more ("i learned the art of making love from the people who wrote the kama sutra")
or to introduce her more thoroughly, and i don't know about you, but i don't really want my one night stand telling me all about some other woman and her whole life and the time she taught him all the sexy times
that's not really part of the mood
so maybe it should have been omitted, but i still loved the book
