Who Would Like This Book:
If you like your apocalyptic fiction bloody, gritty, and edge-of-your-seat intense, this one's for you! "Dark Inside" is a whirlwind survival story told from multiple teen perspectives, as the world collapses into brutal chaos (think The Crazies meets The Stand, but with clever, terrifyingly human monsters). The book dives deep into questions about the darkness lurking in everyone, making it more chilling than your standard zombie fare. Ideal for readers who love fast-paced thrillers and can handle a good dose of psychological horror.
Who May Not Like This Book:
If too many narrators give you a headache, or you crave fleshed-out, deeply distinguishable characters, you might find this a bit jumbled. Some readers struggled to keep track of who was who and felt the POV switches made it hard to connect emotionally. Others were frustrated by the lack of clear answers about what's really going on, and a few didn't love the stereotypical gender roles or occasionally heavy-handed writing. Not recommended if you’re squeamish about violence or want all your plot threads neatly wrapped up.
About:
Dark Inside is a post-apocalyptic novel that follows the aftermath of a massive earthquake that unleashes a darkness within people, turning them into murderous beings known as Baggers. The story revolves around four main characters, each navigating through the chaos and violence to survive in a world where humanity itself becomes the greatest threat. The book is fast-paced, action-packed, and filled with graphic depictions that explore the depths of human nature in extreme survival scenarios.

From The Publisher:
Four teens struggle to survive in an apocalyptic world gone mad in this "brilliant novel that is a fascinating blend between I Am Legend and The Hunger Games" (VOYA).
Since the beginning of mankind, civilizations have fallen: the Romans, the Greeks, the Aztecs…and now us. Huge earthquakes rock the world. Cities are destroyed. But something even more awful is happening: An ancient evil has been unleashed, and it's turning everyday people into hunters, killers, and crazies.
This is the world Aries, Clementine, Michael, and Mason are living in-or rather, trying to survive. Each is fleeing unspeakable horror, from murderous chaos to brutal natural disasters, and each is traveling the same road in a world gone mad. Amid the throes of the apocalypse and clinging to love and meaning wherever it can be found, these four teens are on a journey into the heart of darkness-and to find each other and a place of safety.

So, yeah...I'm finally writing a review for this book.
Well, honestly there was nothing about this book that
really stood out to me. It's a good story with an interesting mystery element to it (one that's never answered that is >.>), but this book just wasn't
amazing.
Before reading this I expected it to be about a zombie apocalypse, because I think I read somewhere that that's what it's about. Uh...
no,
this is not about a zombie apocalypse. If you've ever seen the movie
Crazies then you know what the book's about. It's essentially
Crazies for teens. But what's kinda annoying is that it's never fully explained in the book what is making the people crazy. I suppose the author plans on writing another book, since the ending was pretty open. I also suppose I'll probably read that book as well.
Anyway, what I liked most about the book was the characters. In my opinion they were rather realistic, especially Michael. He did something that I think was probably supposed to make him less sympathetic, but I don't blame the kid at all for what he did cuz I would've done it too! Hey, if you wanna live sometimes you just gotta make some sacrifices.
Hm, I'm trying to think of some other things to bring up, but like I said the book just wasn't amazing to me. It's a decent book, and if you like post-apocalyptic novels then you'll probably like this. But don't expect to be wowed.
I got an ARC copy of this book through Firstreads.
