For twelve long years, the dread fortress of Azkaban held an infamous prisoner named Sirius Black. Convicted of killing thirteen people with a single curse, he was said to be the heir apparent to the Dark Lord, Voldemort.
Now he has escaped, leaving only two clues as to where he might be headed: Harry Potter's defeat of You-Know-Who was Black's downfall as well. And the Azkban guards heard Black muttering in his sleep, "He's at Hogwarts…he's at Hogwarts."
Harry Potter isn't safe, not even within the walls of his magical school, surrounded by his friends. Because on top of it all, there may well be a traitor in their midst.

HP books are reviewed to death, so I'll just say, for my own info, that so far this was my favorite. I laughed out loud when Ron tried to use the phone to call Harry. I have enjoyed listening to the audiobooks vs. reading. It's a nice change of pace and the reader does a good job.
2024 edit: This book was a little annoying to read due to the Ron and Hermione continual arguing subplot. Still enjoyable overall though
2017: This book was the best book I've read in the past 3 years!
One of my favorites of the series!

Definitely Rowling went to next level with a concept of Dementors and a Prison for Wizards, Azkaban. Also I was relieved that Harry got a Godfather in case of emergencies. I would call this book a smart book bringing out Harry's father, James time in the hogwarts, the complex ideas like Animagus and Patronus into HP world. The loyalties questioned and the war between the right and wrong. Loved it!!
Expecto Patronum!!!
Oh how I hate Snape in this book (only to love him tremendously forever later).

Gripping heart-pounding page-turner all the way to the end, this is when the HP series started to get a little darker
