Hell on earth.

That's what it's like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel. It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts-immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn't told her everything. He's hiding something-something dangerous. What if Daniel's version of the past isn't actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

I'm not the book's target audience, so I probably shouldn't whine about finding it annoying. And honestly, I liked this book way better than the first.

For starters, Luce developed a spine and actually questioned Daniel instead of blindly accepting every word he says. I also liked her exploration of her past lives. I even liked her new friends - especially the adorable Miles.

One thing I didn't get was why her old friends were basically out of the picture. I wanted more Cam! Honestly, I think Daniel is dull as dirt and I don't understand why Luce doesn't give him the boot. Yes, they've been together for centuries, but what has he done for her lately?

I'm glad I married a nice, normal human and not a vampire/angel/werewolf.

I feel like this is my second favourite novel in the fallen series, my favourite is of course the first but this book really opened up the world of nephilim, angels, and demons in such realistic way. This may seem very particular but when I read a paranormal book I want it to also be realistic somehow I can relate to it e.g. twilight being also set in a high school and i feel like this book did a really good job of relatability especially for a teenager
