A New York Times Bestseller
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Benedict Bridgerton, in the third of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring the charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix.
BENEDICT'S STORY
Sophie Beckett never dreamed she'd be able to sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball-or that "Prince Charming" would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie has been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But now, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she feels like royalty. Alas, she knows all enchantments must end when the clock strikes midnight.
Ever since that magical night, a radiant vision in silver has blinded Benedict to the attractions of any other-except, perhaps, this alluring and oddly familiar beauty dressed in housemaid's garb whom he feels compelled to rescue from a most disagreeable situation. He has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, but this breathtaking maid makes him weak with wanting her. Yet, if he offers her his heart, will Benedict sacrifice his only chance for a fairy-tale love?

I'm dropping this at 55% mark. I'm not rooting for the couple at all, mostly I find Benedict to be an ass towards the heroine. I Don't hope for them to find an happy ever after so I'll stop here. Don't think this series is for me. I haven't enjoyed any of them so far as I can remember
I loved, loved, loved this book! In fact, the entire series is fantastic. Benedict was such a charming hero and I enjoyed Sophie as well Honestly, I liked the peripheral characters as much as I liked the main characters. Maybe possibly more.
Julia Quinn has managed to create an entire family I want to be best friends with.
I have started reading the series about Bridgertons many years ago, maybe even fifteen years ago, definitely more than ten. I have started with the first book about Daphne and Simon and then read the second one. I was enamoured. But than
An Offer From a Gentleman happened. I started the story, realise it is a marry-beneath-oneself kind of story and put it by. I definitely don't like this theme. So moved on to the next story about Colin and Penelope, which I loved again.
Now it came the time to read
An Offer From a Gentleman. I have to admit that I'm a bit disappointed with the story of Benedict and Sophie. Not because it is indeed a misalliance story which I still don't like. I just didn't enjoy this book as much some other from this series.
I'm not even sure what is the problem. The main characters are as likeable as always. Maybe the plot is just too simple. Still I had no problems with noticing the feelings between Sophie and Benedict. Though, I had some sense of deja vu and now I'm not really sure if I haven't read this story many years ago.
Whatever, that was a nice but not a great addition to the series.
