Such a fun read. I’ve already grabbed 2-3. Thanks to all my fellow SOSers who recommended this series, a special you-never-fail-me shout out to Sandra
Looooooved this - such a great start to the series. I feel so bad for Kira, and how alone she is, given that she's been fucked over or dismissed by everyone in her life except Jin (Jin is The Best!)...people she loves that are happy to believe the worst of her, without even talking to her. It is heartbreaking.
I love sci-fi, but I have such a hard time finding ones that really resonate with me. This one does - the layered story and huge backstory are compelling, and I can't wait to see where it goes.
It kiiiiiiiiiiiiills me that more of this series isn't out. I've gotten spoiled with binging series because generally I find them after the whole thing is done. But it will be worth the wait!
Re-read Sept 2022
Man, I love this series. Some parts of this book are a struggle, not because it isn't good, but because it is hard watching people treat Kira as a pawn, a possession. And it's even harder watching people she cares about treat her with disdain.
I'm not going to lie, I would happily punch Jace in the throat. Raider redeems himself as the series goes on, but Jace is a complete asshole who needs to pull his head out of his ass.
Quick note: If the cover of these books could even LOOSELY depict the main character, that would be great.
Rules of Redemption has been on my TBR for quite a while now, and since I've entered a bit of a sci-fi kick, I decided to pick it up. Not particularly remarkable, but I had a lot of fun with this book. Kira is a capable, engaging character, and the setup of this world has potential.
The relationship between Kira and Graydon is promising but also highly unbalanced, so I'm curious to see if they become more like equals in the future.
I wish I had more to say, but I'm not particularly attached to any of the characters yet, and there weren't any crazy plot twists or high concepts, so it was just a simple, fun book.
Like Skyward (by Brandon Sanderson), but more dramatic, with a better romance subplot, and I loved it more.
Booktone = Byzantium Purple (Emotional, character/plot focus). https://youtube.com/watch?v=AD4WKlAB0Jw
