'Halo' in the series 'Fallen Angel' by Brooke Blaine and Ella Frank follows the story of Halo, a straight man who auditions to be the new lead singer of a rock band after their previous frontman abruptly leaves. Viper, the band's lead guitarist, is drawn to Halo despite their differences and the immediate attraction between them sets the stage for a simmering slow burn romance. The writing style is described as sinfully hot, sizzlingly seductive, with fantastic chemistry between the main characters and a perfect balance of banter and innuendos.

Has Romance?
The romance is a significant and highly engaging aspect of the book, characterized by strong chemistry and tension between the characters.
From The Publisher:
Massive world tours. Over a hundred million albums sold. Groupies galore.
Every day is a party for Viper and the guys of TBD, the biggest rock band in the world. But it all comes to a screeching halt when the lead singer walks out of the studio one day and never comes back.
Ear-blistering vocals. Butchered lyrics. Fame chasers.
After months of lackluster auditions, Viper, the lead guitarist and resident bad boy of the group, is ready to find solace in the bottom of a bottle. Time's running out and the pressure's on to find a new singer, but it isn't until an angel walks through the door that the band's prayers are answered.
Charismatic. Talented. Magic behind the mic. Halo is everything they've been looking for.
With a voice to match his stunning good looks, it isn't long before Viper's taking notice. But there are several reasons this is a bad idea:
1. Interpersonal relationships in the band are discouraged
2. Viper has already broken rule #1-big mistake
3. Halo is straight
Too bad Viper's body isn't listening to his head-at least not the one on his shoulders. But you can't fake chemistry, not onstage and certainly not off it, and Viper and Halo? They have it in spades.
As both men try to resist the fire blazing between them, and the band is forced to reinvent themselves, it'll be a complicated rise back to the top. But from the ashes of what was, something beautiful is born. Something better. And when the world finally sees Halo stretch his wings, they'll discover what it's like to fall for an angel.

I pretty enjoyed this book. But still I find it a bit too simple and unfinished for my liking.
I think that I don’t read a lot of 'gay for you' stories. I do not know why, but somehow I prefer those in which the characters know who they are from the very beginning (even if they hide it from the rest of the world).
Halo is not, in my opinion, the best example of such a story. All the time I had the impression that something is missing and that the whole story is a bit of a shortcut.
That being said, I still pretty enjoyed the whole story. Especially the characters who are easy to like. Although, I must admit that there is something unoriginal in them and I doubt that I would remember them in a month or two. Particularly Halo seems to me somehow colourless at some deeper level. The problem with books that from the very beginning are only intended as the first part of the trilogy, is that the heroes are sometimes not fully developed. And that's in my opinion the case of Halo. In the end, we do not even know what his name is! (And he does not know Viper’s name). Viper has a more significant personality but still not very different from the crowd of other characters from mm romances. And Imogene was driving me crazy, I could not stand her.
It all makes the whole story a bit shallow and unfinished. I do not mind the series. On the contrary, it's nice to come back to well-known character. But it’s something else to read the next book in the series and to read another part of the same story. It’s good there is no cliffhanger! Which does not change the fact that the book does not have a proper ending. Yes, it ends with an event important for the relationship of Halo and Viper but I miss some closure. I have the impression that if the author took the first chapter from the second book and glued it to the end, nobody would know that the ending was somewhere else.
I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the whole story, it’s very easily to read, on the other hand I like there is something lacking. I am also afraid that in the second book Halo and Viper will have a time of quarrels, misunderstandings and bust-ups. We'll see. I hesitated how to rate this book. Initially, I gave it four stars, but when the magic of story began to fade, I dropped to three. Especially when I compared it with other books that I read this year and which I gave four stars. I would give this book three and a half.
