Deviant King is book one of Royal Elite Series. This is a dark high school bully romance, mature new adult, and contains dubious situations that some readers might find offensive. Aiden isn't the normal romance hero. In fact, he's not a hero at ALL. So please don't read this if any of that bothers you.

Rina Kent's
Deviant King promises an intense and dark romance, and it certainly delivers on that front. I went into this book with a mixture of curiosity and cautious optimism. Rina Kent's books haven’t been on my radar, but one of my RL friends recommended it to me. I’d also heard that this series was particularly intense and dark. I was prepared for a dark romance with complex characters and high-stakes drama, hoping it would live up to its reputation.
The story is indeed intense, and the dark romance elements are unmistakable. From the start, the tension between the characters, Elsa and Aiden, is palpable. Kent's writing style is sharp and engaging, making it difficult to put the book down. While I appreciated the dark romance aspect, I found myself less enamored with the abundance of drama. As a New Adult novel, the level of angst and melodrama among the main characters felt overwhelming at times. Elsa's inner conflicts and indecisiveness, narrated in the first person, occasionally became exhausting to follow. I prefer heroines who are more decisive and assertive.
Aiden and Elsa are the heart of this story, and their relationship is as compelling as it is tumultuous. Aiden is the quintessential dark hero—brooding, mysterious, and at times, downright cruel. Yet, there's an undeniable magnetism to his character. Elsa from time to time can be a strong and resilient woman. Her growth throughout the book to someone who stands up to Aiden's domineering nature is rather satisfying.
The romance between Elsa and Aiden follows the typical trajectory of a dark romance, with Aiden bordering on obsession and Elsa grappling with conflicting feelings. While I would have preferred more banter and less angst between them, the passionate scenes between them were undeniably steamy and well-written.
Despite my reservations about the characters' maturity levels, the story itself was captivating. I was fascinated by the unfolding narrative and found myself eager to discover where it would lead. The supporting characters added depth to the story, though I wish we had more insight into Aiden's character, which I suspect will be revealed in subsequent books.
The book concludes with a cliffhanger - not my favorite choice. But I admit that I was left wanting more, despite my reservations about the level of drama. While this story may not be my ideal dark romance, fans of the genre will likely find it satisfying. I intend to continue with the series to see how the story unfolds, though I may need a break from Kent's intense storytelling afterward.
Not a fan of high school romance but this series is precursor to her many other series, loved everything just wish this was set in college. If you pretend they are older it is a fun and sexy series. They don't act like high schoolers..
