"Who wants to go to heaven anymore? There's nothing but angels there."
End of Days was not at all what I'd expected. But, that's why I'm the reader and Susan's the writer. As any fan of this series will tell you, it's virtually impossible to maintain reasonable expectations and just let Susan take you on the journey
she's spent years visualizing for not only Penryn, Paige, Manic Mom and Raffe but also humanity at large.
Pooky Bear made me special. I was more than just a girl with it.
Unlike [b:Angelfall|15863832|Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1)|Susan Ee|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1381264956s/15863832.jpg|16435765] and [b:World After|17849112|World After (Penryn & the End of Days, #2)|Susan Ee|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1423238855s/17849112.jpg|18142457],
End of Days was slow in places and had a discrepancy
9% into the story, when Raffe still has Beliel's demon wings,
"[Penryn hears] ... Raffe's footsteps clomp down the wooden stairs. The front door opens and slams shut. Then I see a snowy wing tip sweep the air outside my window as he takes off."
that, while most likely a small editing oversight, surprised me. Furthermore, I had hoped
for a more powerful connection between Penryn and Raffe and
for a more emotional ride to the end. Nevertheless, I
loved spending time with these characters and will miss them.
"Is this goodbye?" I ask. He nods.
This series holds a special place in my heart. What started out as a self-published indy promoted by its loving author quickly became a best seller, must-read. Thank you, Susan, for sharing your story. I look forward to going wherever you decide to lead me next. Cheers!
The war is now over. It's time to bring the survivors together and rebuild.
Fantastic end to a fantastic trilogy!
Seriously, I'm not even sure how to write a review, because I'm still basking in the happy afterglow.
This is a really fantastic, fresh series. I love the unique approach to the done-to-death angel genre. I love the characters. I love the complexity of this world - there are no good choices, no pure and good characters. Everyone is doing what they need to do to survive.
The tiniest nit I'd pick is that I'd love to know more about the hellions. There was a wealth of backstory hinted at in this book -
have the angels staged an apocalypse before, and wiped out a different world? is this just a cycle for them?
- that would be fabulous to dig into.
And I'd also have loved to see the angels, as a whole, learn some hard truths about themselves and their flaws. But oh well.
Loved this series. Can't recommend it enough. Really excited to see what this author does next.
About the Author:
Susan Ee has eaten mezze in the old city of Jerusalem, surfed the warm waters of Costa Rica, and played her short film at a major festival. She has a life-long love of science fiction, fantasy and horror, especially if there's a touch of romance. She used to be a lawyer but loves being a writer because it allows her souped-up imagination to bust out and go feral.
