Honestly I wish I never saw the film before reading this book years ago. Rereading it was a joy to meet my favorite characters again in their youth tho.
I always find myself looking for books with whimsy and adventure - the kinds I used to read as a kid that would just take me away... I found a few but it never made me feel the same as I did as a kid. This book did. I felt like a kid again in my primary school library with the smell of musty books while I read. This book was jaw dropping. I was coming up with theories the whole time but I still didn't see that twist coming. I played right into the authors hands. I loved the scenery and the world building. The characters were perfect and I actually felt for them. This book got every emotion out of me. It was so nostalgic even though I've never read it before, it felt like the book was speaking about me because of the mentions of ADHD which I have. It felt so comforting and easy to read. I found myself wanting to pick this up and ignore the world and everyone in it while I read.
An entertaining and enjoyable story from beginning to end.
One of its strengths is how it uses Greek mythology, which is already interesting in itself, and adapts it to its modern world.
The protagonist and the other characters work. They are relatable.
The story feels rushed at times, but plays its cards well so as not to be predictable.
I must say that I didn't like the end of a smelly character and it seemed too much.
The end did not feel as much as such since it is only the beginning but still it is not entirely satisfactory.
I liked it a lot and I plan to read its sequels.
It opened a world of amazing books for me.
The premise of the story is interesting and has great world building.
Good YA. I love the message behind it. The application of the circumstances of the myths to modern settings is unexpectedly smooth.
This book was basically a Harry Potter copycat, but who cares? Love Harry Potter, love the copycats, I say. And even though there were a million plot points that were similar to the Potter, I still found myself breezing through this book with a big smile on my face.
I enjoyed the mythology and the whole 'son-of-a-Greek-god' angle. The characters were fun and realistic (as realistic as demi-gods can be.) I'm hooked!
Very YA. Good for kids under 14.
I love the Greek mythology in a little bit of like I have a crush on someone, but I don’t want to admit it I just iT
I can't believe I didn't read this sooner!
